for this assignment i found a cool shape that i thought would make an interesting diptych and i shot it twice, one in soft light, and one in very low light. it wasn't quite night yet, but pretty close, my camera died before i could take a final night shot. bummer. Nonetheless i am happy with the cool shape of my photograph.

Assignment # 6- Black and White Portraits
This is Ashley, She is obsessed with Bollywood.
This is my face again. For this self portrait i experimented a little bit. I used Baby powder to throw before the shot to try and create a slight mask which slightly confuses the viewer. I did this because think it is interesting how people even if we think we know someone completely, there is usually always a layer which fuzzes a true perception of who they are. How we see people depends on our lens of preference and often times we neglect to acknowledge its there.

Assignment #5- Portraits (color)
This is Shawn, I didn't know him before this assignment, and it was a little awkward asking a stranger to take a picture, but it was a really good experience for me. I am usually pretty awkward at making people comfortable in front of a camera, but i did better than I thought I would!
This is my roommate Allie. I wanted to explore a digital version of double exposure. At BYU, being naked is scarce. I don't mean naked only in the physical sense of the word. People tend to put on their best face and refuse to show their imperfections.
Someone I'm not--someone that wears a mask. To me, it seems that especially in the visual arts department, people try to put on a a persona that isn't really true to themselves. I have felt that every time i try and become something i'm not, it only pollutes my original, true, and genuine self. In a way this picture is a promise to myself that as i continue forward as a visual arts student, that i will stay true to my own instincts and creative processes.
